THEY NEED YOU!
We are a foster based rescue. This means that we are only able to save as many animals as there are foster homes. Please consider opening your heart and home to give an animal a second chance!
FOSTER FAQS
WHAT IS FOSTERING?
A foster provides a loving home and care for an animal until a forever home can be found. It is healthier for a pet to be in a foster home than caged up in a shelter environment while waiting for adoption. When an animal is in a foster home, we are able to learn more about its true personality, which makes it easier to find a perfect match in a forever family.
HOW DO I START FOSTERING?
To start fostering, fill out an application here. We will match you with a rescue that works with your preferences and lifestyle. Follow our social accounts @linusrescue and email us at info@linusrescue.org if you see us post an animal you are interested in fostering!
HOW LONG WILL I BE FOSTERING?
It varies. Typically, dogs find a new home within a few weeks while cats take a bit longer. We ask that a foster be willing and able to hold on to an animal as long as possible to prevent the pet from bouncing from home to home, allowing us to get a better understanding of its true personality.
WHAT IF I CAN NO LONGER FOSTER?
We ask for minimum 24 to 48 hour notice to give us enough time to arrange for a new foster to take over. The more notice given, the better. If you have a specific challenge with your foster animal, please reach out as soon as possible for further guidance.
WILL THE ANIMAL BE DELIVERED TO ME?
Not always. You are responsible for all transportation while the foster pet is with you. This includes picking the animal up, taking them to vet appointments and adoption meetings, etc.
WHAT WILL I NEED TO BUY?
All supplies that you purchase for your foster pet can be considered tax deductible donations to Linus & Friends. Most foster parents prefer to buy and use their own supplies. That said, we can provide a leash, a crate, a litter box, and food if desired.
AM I EXPECTED TO PAY VETERINARY CARE?
We cover veterinary expenses as long as the visit is approved by us. If you take your foster to a vet without our knowledge and consent, it is your financial responsibility.
CAN I TAKE MY FOSTER ANIMAL TO A DOG PARK?
No. For safety and liability issues, none of our animals are allowed in dog parks or any other off-leash areas. Please keep all dogs on a leash at all times outside of your home.
WILL MY FOSTER BE UP TO DATE ON VACCINES?
Most of the time, yes. However, occasionally we will need your help getting them to their vet appointment for their vaccines (which we cover the cost of!). You will be made aware if a rescue is not up to date prior to taking them in.
WHAT IF I WANT TO ADOPT MY FOSTER?
Amazing! The fewer homes the animal bounces around to, the better. If you wish to adopt your foster pet, reach out to us asap as you will still need to fill out the adoption application. If approved, you will be able to adopt the animal as long as another adopter has not already been selected and approved.
